Remote Start BASICS:

1-WAY remote: the keyfob will transmit to the vehicle only, you will have to physically see or hear the vehicle to confirm that it has started.

2-WAY remote: the keyfob will transmit to the vehicle, if command is received, the remote will respond with a visual & audible notification.

transmitter ranges are based on the manufactures advertised distances & are assumed to be direct line of site without interference. Any obsticle (walls, vehicles, RF interference) can hinder the actual distance that the system will communicate.

Most vehicles newer than 1998 have OEM anti-theft systems installed &/or data controlled circuits, which require additional parts to allow the vehicle to start without a key in the ignition or disarm the OEM security features.
